Enzymes and the Krebs Cycle
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page paper discussing enzymes at their most basic level. Comprised of amino acids, enzymes are the catalysts of myriad biochemical reactions. In keeping with the true nature of catalysts, they accelerate and enable reactions without being materially affected themselves. The second section of the paper presents a diagram of the Krebs or citric acid cycle. Taking place in the mitochondria of the cell, the citric acid cycle is the last in a series of steps that convert 'food' into 'energy.' Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Evolution of the Human Brain
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page paper which discusses the evolution of the human brain. Not a great deal has been clearly established in terms of the evolution of the human brain. There are many theories and many different approaches, some of which are addressed herein. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

EXERCISE AND MEDITATION: INCORPORATING THE STRESS BUSTERS
[ send me this paper ]
This paper examines stress, and how exercise and meditation have a physiological impact against stress. The paper also examines a new concept, mind-body exercise, that is starting to be used as a treatment. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

Functional Analysis of a Forehand Ground Stroke in Tennis
[ send me this paper ]
The forehand ground stroke in tennis requires the coordination of more than 130 muscles in the legs, back, shoulder and arm for the approach, the back swing (initiation), the forward swing and the contact, and the deceleration. This 20 page paper provides a functional analysis of the forehand ground stroke in tennis by evaluating the connection between skeletal and muscular components in evaluating elements like range of motion, the phases of the swing, and the desired effect (hitting the ball) that come into play in determining the physical motion of the swing. Bibliography lists 20 sources.

Hemispheric Specialization and the Human Brain
[ send me this paper ]
This 6 page report discusses the status of hemispheric specialization in terms of human brain studies. In the past few decades, it has become increasingly clear that the human brain has potential beyond even that which had been imagined. The realization of that potential has led to a greater determination on the part of researchers to better understand the functions and interactions of the different sections or hemispheres of the brain. Bibliography lists 10 sources.

Homeostasis: Definition and Examples
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page discussion of the physiological process of homeostasis, the tendency of living organisms to maintain an equilibrium in regard to a number of physiological aspects ranging from blood sugar regulation to temperature regulation. Provides a detailed discussion of the importance of homeostasis in regard to the regulation of such compounds as salt and even the critical balance of wastes products such as urea and carbon dioxide. Details the process of osmoregulation as it pertains to homeostasis. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Is Facial Communication Universal?
[ send me this paper ]
A 10 page discussion of facial expression. Utilizes the research in the field to explore the question of whether or not certain facial expressions are universal in their meaning, e.g. that they have the same meaning regardless of the cultural context. Contrasts the view that facial expression are solely cultural manifestations and thus vary in meaning according to culture and the view that these expressions are biological in their basis and thus have the same meaning regardless of the cultural context. Concludes that while some expressions are universal in their meaning, facial expression is dependent not only on biology but also on culture and on minute-specific details of an encounter. Bibliography lists 8 sources.

Language and the Brain
[ send me this paper ]
This 22 page paper considers the progression of theoretical perspectives on language and cognitive development as they relate to the biological structures of the brain. In particular, this paper considers the research relative to psycholinguistic models and combines a view of neuroscience and the process of neural code development related to language acquisition as a means of viewing human mental function. Bibliography lists 15 sources.
